Good news, the first rough draft of my novel Sarah's Still Life is almost complete (I had previously completed what I dubbed as an "ultra-rough draft"). I have a few, but significant, areas to finish up and then it will be off to my beta-readers. How long until full completion will depend on their feedback. I will add new blogs with updates as the process goes along.
For those of you who are wondering, Sarah's Still Life is about a woman named Sarah who is struggling to find her place in the world. She works at a local tea shop to get by and is slowly working her way through school. Her dreams are continually stagnated by her dysfunctional family - an alcoholic, distant father and a chronically depressed, mentally ill mother. Her life gets turned on its head when Michael, her high school one who 'got away' , re-enters her life.
A little bit of trivia for you all. Does anyone know where the novel's title comes from? The answer is two-fold actually: The main character's name is Sarah and a still life painting is a prominent feature in the story, but there's more. While the story and characters were already developed, the title takes some of its inspiration from the Bill Bruford's Earthworks song of the same name. So now you know.
